We want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary work of colleague Linda Ervine MBE an inspiring and tireless advocate for the Irish language whose efforts have opened hearts and minds across the Island of Ireland.
Linda's personal story is a reflection of the complex, interwoven heritage that shapes our islands. Through her leadership, she has nurtured a movement rooted in openness, education, and generosity. Her work has helped challenge old divisions and has become a beacon for those seeking a shared and inclusive future.
Yet, as often happens with progress, backlash follows. Recently, Linda faced public condemnation from the Loyalist Communities Council (LCC) a body chaired by figure of the Unionist past. This organisation, which lacks both mandate and vision, is attempting to reignite old hostilities in a bid to halt the momentum of cultural and political change.
Loyalists themselves have seen this pattern before. Time and again, efforts to manipulate and divide working-class communities have emerged from the shadows of failed leadership. The LCC does not speak for all Loyalists, just as no one organisation can claim to represent all Jews, Muslims, or Christians across the UK. It is, at best, an outdated echo of a darker chapter, seeking to trade once again in fear and division.
But such attempts will not succeed not this time.Linda Ervine’s work speaks louder than their rhetoric. It resonates across communities, showing what is possible when courage meets compassion. She has helped carve out a space for honest engagement with identity, heritage, and shared hope. And that is a legacy no council of the past can erase.
Loyalist voices deserve to be heard authentically, independently, and without manipulation. And they deserve to hear the Irish language, not as a threat, but as part of the rich cultural landscape we all share. We stand with Linda Ervine. Her work continues to guide us forward.
